US/African Educational Exchange
On the Journey
The Senegalese students spontaneously expressed themselves in rhythmic song and dance which we were able to capture on video for the students at the sister school here. A visist from a Senegalese Presidential candidate and spiritual leader was a highlight for the American school. The visitor shared animated African folk tales which delighted the students.
On the other side the Americans here have the technology, educational advancement and resources to offer numerous opportunities for Senegalese to broaden their horizons in a country that is extremely poor, through exchange programs for Senegalese to come to this country and experience opportunities not available to them in Senegal.
We also feel that there is a growing need in the United States for students to gain a broader understanding of other cultures and thereby learn of others' humanity. We in the United States tend to be isolated and hold a disporoportionate view of peoples from other cultures. We believe that broader understanding can help prevent future conflicts.
